draperHEAT, (part of the draperGROUP) is a well-established specialist company offering turnkey climate control, heating and ventilation systems into the UK poultry sector, and some industrial applications.
The recent years have seen rapid growth and expansion with many installations around the UK, both on new build sites and retrofit. Heating system form a key component to the turn key schemes, typically biomass with LPG peak/back-up, LTHW 200 â€“ 1200kW. Recent changes to legislation have seen more focus on low cost biomass fuels including straw, waste timber and poultry manure.
Role – Permanent full-time position â€“ Assistant Engineer â€“ Biomass boiler systems
Assistant engineer to work alone and also alongside a qualified heating engineer covering mainly routine planned maintenance on numerous sites within 90 minutesâ€™ radius of Sleaford. The boilers are mainly wood pellet boilers. Biomass boilers develop ash residues contained within the boiler systems. These residues require frequent removal, so 50% of the routine service work involves de ashing / cleaning with industrial cleaning equipment, prior to the end of crop service checks carried out during the same visit. As well as the routine scheduled work, you will be required to assist with boiler major servicing, some new installation works and occasionally other activities across the company.
The candidate may be either content to carry out routine cleaning work long term, or with training become a qualified biomass service technician and take responsibility for various sites. The role is physical and candidate will need to be prepared to work in all UK conditions.
Typical hours 40-50/wk , 5 days /wk
Or may be adapted to 4 days/wk pro rata hrs.

â€¢ General service, maintenance and breakdown experience and advantage of any equipment
â€¢ Full UK clean Driving Licence
â€¢ Experience with Biomass Boilers â€“ Not essential
â€¢ Excellent customer contact skills
â€¢ Ability to work both independently, as well as within a team
â€¢ Home location not essential but local to Sleaford an advantage
â€¢ Any health & safety qualifications / training an advantage.
â€¢ Knowledge of poultry industry an advantage but not essential.
â€¢ On site start time 8AM
â€¢ Ability to manage own time and take responsibility for yourself on a day to day basis
â€¢ On farm record keeping being carried out whilst on site
â€¢ Job sheets to be complete and filed on company drive within 24hrs of completion
â€¢ Smart company clothing to be worn at all times.
â€¢ Smart shorts may be worn if tasks are deemed low risk to bear legs.
â€¢ PPE provided must be worn as needed. e.g. masks when de ashing, safety glasses.
â€¢ Boiler check sheets to be completed for each boiler
â€¢ Reporting to line manager Jim Oâ€™ Sullivan
â€¢ General system faults to be noted on paperwork
â€¢ Small minor repairs to be carried out whilst in attendance
â€¢ Boiler rooms to be blown, swept as time allows.
â€¢ Always leave a site clean and tidy even if you have not made the mess.
â€¢ Line manager to provide weekly work schedules
â€¢ Regular contact with line manager to deal with issues and any changes to schedules
â€¢ Contact site managers prior to visit to check all OK. (i.e. boilers off and cool)

â€¢ Company vehicles to be kept clean, tidy, washed and presentable.
â€¢ Poultry site hygiene protocols to be followed at all times
â€¢ On site smoking permitted in accordance with site rules designated areas.
â€¢ Food and drink generally to be in van or rest room, not around work area.
